Tag, I’m It
Thanks to Mickey Gousset and his awakening from blogging slumber, I’ve been sucked into this tagging game. Apparently I need to divulge 5 things you may not have known about me. Fine, here goes…
1.) I grew up in a small town outside of the Quad Cities (IL/IA border) called Colona (on the Illinois side). It wasn’t unusual to see a John Deere tractor driving down Highway-84 every so often. As a matter of fact, both of my parents worked for John Deere, are now retired and enjoy spending their winters in Arizona – lucky them!
2.) When I was 12-years old I suffered an unfortunate BMX accident in which I decided to (unknowingly) clear a table-top jump and slam the front wheel of my bike straight into the ground with the left handlebar practically impaling my ribcage. I ended up rupturing my spleen and I have the scar to prove it. (Y’ ouch!)
3.) When I was in 8th grade, I took a joint school trip to Washington D.C. Out of 2 chartered buses full of pubescent kids, I was one of two people selected to assist the honor guard in laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I would like to think I was selected because I was a good representation of our student-guests but I honestly think it was because I was one of the only ones dressed appropriately for the occasion.
4.) I worked my way through college as DJ at Northern Illinois University, spinning the decks at establishments such as McCabe’s, The Jungle and Amnesia. These clubs/bars are a thing of the past on the landscape of DeKalb, IL. I’d like to think it had nothing to do with my entertainment skills (which it didn’t; they existed for several more years after I left, thank you very much). Speaking of College… I was a member of Delta Sigma Phi… my nickname in college was “Hollywood” (people to this day still think that’s my real name)… I was Vice President of the Stevenson Residence Hall Association… I was suckered into participating in the Mr. Stevenson North contest (don’t ask!)… I lived on the quiet floor (go figure)… and last but certainly not least, I met my lovely bride in the Stevenson North dorms.
5.) I’m a huge U2 fan, a golf fanatic, enjoy most musical genres (just check my Zune library), I won’t be working for 1-800-Handyman anytime soon, I don’t know how to change the oil in my car…I’ve seen Depeche Mode live 6 times and U2 8 times… I sprained my right ankle 3 times and my left twice playing basketball, now I can’t sneak up on anybody because of my cracking-ankles (ewww!).
Ok…that’s *way* too much information for all of you but a good exercise in digging deep in the recesses of my memory bank. Let’s see how Kevin Hammond, Jeff Key, Ryan Rinaldi, Bill Steele fair in this little game. Also, let’s wake up our favorite Developer Marketing and dancing Warrior-Elf gal, Trisha Lacey, from her blogging slumber.
